James Toohey

Our CEO is here from LA today and is telling us about all the Cinema Exhibitors they have been talking to at the CinemaCon expo. It is always cool to hear about how customers use our software in different parts of the world!

6.30 AM

I wake up to my alarm and get changed into my running gear. I head out for a quick run and do a couple of laps around the Auckland domain.

7.00 AM

All done with my run, time for a shower and to get ready for the day.

7.15 AM

I make my smoothie for breakfast, set up at my desk I’ve got at home, and start writing a bit of code. I’m coding a new feature to get movie trailers to play on a website at the moment.

WFH

8.45 AM

Time to head off to the office. I chuck my laptop in my bag, head out the door, and jump onto the next bus into the CBD.

9.15 AM

I arrive at work and head over to my teammates. We have a hot desk arrangement at our office, so I find a seat next to them and get set up for the day.

9.30 AM

We usually have our team standup at this time, but today we’ve got a companywide meeting on our mezzanine floor.

10.30 AM

Time for a coffee break. I meet up with my manager and we head down to a café for my much-needed caffeine.

11.00 AM

Back to coding I go. I’ve managed to get the trailers loading and they seem to be playing now, woohoo! The fun part of coding this feature is that I get to watch parts of the trailers to test that it is working!

12.00 PM

Its lunchtime. Most of our wider team is in the office today so we head out for a group lunch at a Korean place down the road.

Lunch

1.30 PM

I get back into the office just in time for our team refinement. We discuss our upcoming work and break it down into smaller tasks that we can work on next week.

2.30 PM

I start doing some pair programming work with my teammate Josh. He’s working on a tricky bug, so we are working together to try and debug it.

Programming

3.30 PM

I get back to my movie trailers work, chuck on some headphones, and begin writing some tests for the code I wrote this morning.

4.30 PM

That’s enough coding for one day. Time to wrap up and head upstairs for our Thursday night drinks. Since lots of us come in on a Thursday, this is always a good time to catch up with everyone!

5.30 PM

That’s it for me, I pack my bags, say goodbye to everyone, and head off home.
